A 28 year old man has been charged with robbery and racially aggravated  assault and remanded into custody.

David Hickman from Myrtle Grove, Egremont, appeared at Wirral magistrates today (Wednesday) and will next appear at the same court on Tuesday 27th February 2018.

At around 2.45am on Tuesday 26 December, two men were involved in a dispute with a male taxi driver in King Street, Wallasey. The taxi driver was assaulted and racially abused before money was stolen. The victim suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital following the incident. He was released from hospital and is now recovering.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Denn said: “This was a shocking attack on a defenceless man, which has resulted in serious injuries and a long-term recovery”.
